Look what we found at the market in Nyons this morning - looks scary, doesn't it? Nyons in our neighboring departement Drome is mostly known for its excellent olive oil, but its Provençal market every Thursday morning also offers more exotic fare. Why the fishmongers sell fish from Africa when the Mediterranean is just around the corner is beyond me but it sure makes for interesting viewing.
Can't imagine how to even begin preparing this. Looks fresh, though. You are so fortunate to have so many, many choices.
ReplyDeleteI've had dorade before - I never knew it looked like that!
ReplyDeleteI may be in Provence in a couple of weeks, so I will be poring over your blog for ideas!
Wow, what a photo. The "Dorade" so I have not seen before, interesting.
ReplyDeleteI know from my friend in Lacanau, which makes it often and raves of these fresh fish on carrots, leeks und white wine.
Your area with the olive oil is very beautiful. I love this olive oil from Provence.
Have a wonderful weekend and best regards
Ingrid
What an interesting looking fish. It almost looks cartoonish. I really love fish, but like Susan I would not know what to do with it.
ReplyDeleteStrangest looking Daurade I have ever seen. Looks much bigger than the Daurade we normally see in the market. As you say, it is weird that they are selling fish from Africa when there is so much available from the Mediterranean.
ReplyDeletethat sure is some sight! I wonder how the flesh taste like, curious : )
